Ask yourself the following questions:

What is your preferred type of hospital ward?

Can you afford your health insurance premium for the next 20 to 30 years, especially after retirement?

Do you anticipate a spike in healthcare usage?

Do you have sufficient savings in your MediSave account?

If you have a private integrated shield plan, you should also take this opportunity to reevaluate whether it still meets your healthcare needs.

In the long run, do you prefer an absolute peace of mind or do you prefer sustainable and lower lifetime cost?

Part 7: Final Thoughts

The 2024 MediShield Life Review enhances the MediShield Life scheme in various ways. Overall, this restores the scheme’s foundational principle to fully cover nine in ten subsidised bills. This is especially valuable amid the rising healthcare costs. However, higher deductibles and insurance premiums also mean higher out-of-pocket expenses. With this in mind, consider whether you prefer an absolute peace of mind or a health insurance scheme with more sustainable and lower lifetime costs.

Reference: Government accepts MediShield Life Council’s recommendations to enhance MediShield Life scheme, Government support more than offsets premium increases

The 2024 MediShield Life Review enhances our national basic health insurance scheme in more than 10 ways.
