    One Minute Summary:

    • DBS yuu card’s main benefit lies in awarding at least 5% cash rebates when you spend at participating yuu merchants. For this purpose, there is neither a minimum spend nor a cap on the Base Award.
    • Thereafter, when you spend at least $800 a month at participating yuu merchants and/or with SimplyGo, you will enjoy 18% cash rebates in total (equivalent to 10 miles per $1).
    • Summing up, such an earning rate beats most of the reward points credit cards that are available on the market.

Part 1: What is DBS yuu Card

In essence, DBS yuu is a reward-based credit card that gives you reward points for your spending. Thereafter, you can redeem the reward points for cash rebates, discounted or exclusive items via the yuu App, or to convert these reward points into miles.

Note: DBS uses the term “yuu Points” for the points earned on the DBS yuu card account. Since there is no additional meaning behind this term, we will simply stick to the universal term, “reward points”.

    Part 2: Main Benefits

On the whole, DBS uses a three-tier award system for its cash rebate programme.

Part 2.1: Base Award (Non-yuu Spend)

For non-yuu merchants or on SimplyGo, you will earn 0.5 Base Points for every $1 spent (certain exclusion applies). In general, 0.5 Base Points is equivalent to 0.25% cash rebates (or 0.14 miles per $1). After making an eligible spend, DBS will credit the Base Point into your yuu Account within 60 working days after the end of each calendar month (read Part 6 on how to link the DBS yuu card to your yuu Account). There is no minimum spending required to earn the 0.5 Base Points.

Part 2.2: Base Award (yuu Spend)

For yuu merchant, you will earn 1 Base Point for every $1 spent (certain exclusion applies). In this case, 1 Base Point is equivalent to 0.5% cash rebates (or 0.28 miles per $1) and there is no minimum spending required to earn the 1 Base Point. Since this spending is made with a yuu merchant, DBS is able to credit the Base Point into your yuu Account within the same day.

Part 2.3: Bonus Award (yuu Spend)

Further to Part 2.1 and Part 2.2, you will earn an additional 9 Bonus Points (equivalent to 4.5% cash rebates) for every dollar spent at a yuu merchant. Similarly, you will also earn an additional 9.5 Bonus Points (equivalent to 4.75% cash rebates) for every dollar spent on SimplyGo. In both instances, no minimum spending is required to earn the respective bonus points. Summing up, for yuu merchants and on SimplyGo, you will earn a total of 10 reward points for every dollar spent (equivalent to 5% cash rebates or 2.8 miles per $1).

In addition, let’s consider the case when you meet the following two criteria within a calendar month:

    1. Charge and posted at least $800 in eligible spending on your DBS yuu card (can consist of both yuu and non-yuu merchants), and
    2. Transact at 4 different participating merchants.

By fulfilling these two criteria, you will earn an additional 26 Bonus Points (equivalent to 13% cash rebates or 7.2 miles per $1) for every dollar spent at a yuu merchant or on SimplyGo. Here is a list of the participating merchants to fulfil the second criteria:

All in all, DBS caps the Bonus Award at 28,800 reward points (equivalent to $144 cash rebates or 8,000 miles) in a calendar month. Based on my personal experience, I tend to receive the 28,800 Bonus Points by the 25th of the following month.

    Part 3: Main Cost

These are some of the costs that you should know for the DBS yuu card.

    Part 3.1: Fees and Charges

    • Annual Fee: $196.20, waived for the first year
    • Cash Advance Fee: $15 or 8% of the amount withdrawn, whichever higher
    • Foreign Currency Transaction Fee: 3.25%
    • Interest Charges: 27.8% per annum
    • Late Payment Fee: $100

Generally, you should avoid paying any of the above-mentioned fees. That being said, let’s evaluate the situation on whether it is worth paying the annual fee to keep the DBS yuu card. Based on 5% cash rebates, you will need to spend at least $3,924 a year (or $327 monthly) to reach the breakeven point. If you spend less than that, you may wish to cancel this credit card.

In contrast, based on the 18% cash rebates, you will need to spend at least $1,090 a year (or $90.84 monthly) to reach the breakeven point. By and large, this shouldn’t be a problem since you need to spend at least $800 a month to unlock the 18% cash rebates.

    Part 3.2: Limitations

For the Bonus Award (mentioned in Part 2.3), DBS caps the Bonus Points at 28,800 Bonus Points in a calendar month. This translates to a maximum spending of $822.86 a month (take $822.86 x 35 Points). Thereafter, you will earn the base rate of either 0.5 Base Points (for SimplyGo and non-participating merchant) or 1 Base Point (for participating merchant). With this in mind, I will highly recommend you to spend between $800 and $822.86 in a calendar month – what a good way to control your expenditure!

Next, it is important to realise that the yuu points will expire two years after the date of issuance. Additionally, if you do not earn or redeem any points on your yuu Account for two consecutive years, then your yuu Account will be closed. Here is how to check the expiry of your reward points via the yuu App:

    1. Open the yuu App
    2. At the bottom right of the screen, tap on “Me”
    3. Navigate to “My Transaction”
    4. At the top of the screen, you will be able to find out the number of points that will expire at the end of the current month

You may also tap in to find out the number of points that will expire in the next three months.

Thirdly, DBS excludes some products from the participating yuu merchants. For example, you won’t earn any reward points for buying gift cards and vouchers at Giant. Accordingly, you should take a look at the DBS yuu card’s terms and conditions before you spend on your card.

Finally, at this time, you may choose to apply for either the Visa card or the American Express® card. By and large, there are no significant differences in how either card functions. However, based on the feedback gathered from the users, the Visa card is more widely accepted at the participating yuu merchants. As a result, if you don’t have any attachment to American Express®, I suggest you apply for the Visa version of the card.

    Part 4: Eligibility

If you intend to apply for a DBS yuu card, then you must fulfil the following conditions:

    • Age Requirement: Between 21 and 75 years old
    • For Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents: Minimum annual income of $30,000 (between age 21 and 55), $15,000 (age 56 and above)
    • For Expatriate: Minimum annual income of $45,000.

🎁 If you are are new to the DBS yuu card, sign up for the card and use my referral code JRQ65SU1 on the yuu app to earn 2,000 yuu Points (equivalent to $10 cash rebates) today.

Part 5: How I use DBS yuu Card

The DBS yuu card accounts for all my grocery-related expenditure (typically at either Giant or Cold Storage). Occasionally, I will also order meals via foodpanda whenever I’m feeling lazy to prepare my own meals.

Overall, my goal is to spend at least $800 a month so that I can unlock the 18% cash rebates in the form of yuu points. Doing so enables me to save a total of $144 a month and that’s certainly a lot of savings that we are talking about the whole time!

In order to receive the reward points, you will need to link your DBS yuu card to your yuu Account first. For this purpose, you need to download the yuu SG app and sign up for its free account. Thereafter,

    1. Tap the Me icon at the bottom right-hand corner of the yuu SG app.
    2. Next, under Account Settings, tap on Linked Cards.
    3. Finally, on the DBS yuu Card, tap Link Now and follow the on-screen instructions to proceed.

    Part 7: Final Thoughts

In truth, the DBS yuu card is not for everyone. This is because you need to spend at the participating merchants to earn at least 5% cash rebates. Otherwise, for non-yuu merchants, you will most likely be better off using another credit card. For example, the Standard Chartered Simply Cash credit card offers 1.5% uncapped cashback from every dollar spent. Whereas UOB Preferred Platinum Visa or Citi Rewards offer 4 miles per dollar spend on various merchant categories.

Moreover, to receive the maximum cash rebates of 18%, you need to spend at least $800 in a calendar month with at least 4 participating merchants. For one thing, this may take some effort to track your expenditure (which may not be a bad idea in reality). In any case, given the attractive cash rebates, I am more than willing to track my expenditure – take it as paying myself $144 a month to be a part-time accountant.

    Part 8: Changes

    • Effective from 1 October 2025, you can earn up to 18% cash rebates on SimplyGo and CHAGEE.
    • Effective from 1 October 2025, you need to spend at least $800 in a calendar month to earn the additional cash rebates (revised from $600 monthly). Additionally, you will also need to transact at 4 different participating merchants (including SimplyGo) per calendar month.
    • Effective from 1 October 2025, you will earn 0.25% cash rebates for spendings made on non-yuu merchants (revised from 0.5%).
    • Effective from 1 October 2025, DBS yuu American Express® cardmembers will earn 0.5% cash rebates at Mandai Wildlife Group (revised from up to 18% cash rebates).
    • Effective from 1 November 2025, BreadTalk, Toast Box, Thye Moh Chan, and Mandai Wildlife Group will no longer be a Participating Merchant. As a result, you will earn 0.25% cash rebates (revised from up to 18% cash rebates).
