    Part 1: Market Comparison

To begin with, let’s go through the results from the latest open electricity market retailers comparison. At this time, Senoko Energy is one of the electricity retailers that offer the cheapest electricity rate for the following categories:

    • 12-Month Standard Fixed Price Plan at 28.67 cents/kWh

Part 2: Open Electricity Market Retailer Rating

Since October 2019, Energy Market Authority has been conducting a Customer Satisfaction Survey on an ongoing basis. This is with the intention to better understand consumers’ experiences in the Open Electricity Market. Additionally, the survey helps to determine how satisfied the consumers are with their electricity retailer. For this purpose, the electricity retailers are rated using a 5-point rating scale. At this time, there are ten electricity retailers and this is the general sentiment from the public:

    Part 4: Customer Service

If you know me, you will know that I hold a high regard for good customer service. This is because these are the professionals who you will approach in the event of a hiccup. With Senoko Energy, you may call their customer service hotline at 1800 688 8888, use their LiveChat service, or email them via their online web form. Personally, I prefer to send them a message via WhatsApp. By and large, their replies have been prompt, polite, and helpful. This makes me feel comfortable working with them.

    Part 5: Fixed Price Plans

Now that we know Senoko Energy is a great company to work with, let’s find out the plans that it offers, starting with the three standard fixed price plans. By choosing one of the following three electricity plans, you will pay a fixed electricity rate throughout the entire contractual period. This is regardless of the future electricity tariff. In detail, the three standard fixed price plans are:

    • LifePower12: 12 months fixed price at 28.67 cents/kWh
    • LifePower24: 24 months fixed price at 25.88 cents/kWh
    • LifeGreen24: 24 months fixed price at 26.26 cents/kWh

If you prefer a shorter lock-in period, choose LifePower12. In this case, you will pay a fixed electricity rate of 28.67 cents/kWh over the next 12 months. If you are comfortable with a longer lock-in period and wish to pay the least amount possible, choose LifePower24. If you prefer a plan that is 100% certified to be solar carbon neutral, choose LifeGreen24.

Senoko Energy also offers a non-standard fixed price plan, LifePower36. This plan offers an electricity rate of 25.33 cents/kWh over the next 36 months.

Part 6: Discount Off the Regulated Tariff Plans

A discount off the regulated tariff plan enables you to enjoy a discount off the prevailing electricity tariff. In other words, you will definitely enjoy some savings as compared to staying with SP Group. Here are the two discount off the regulated tariff plans that Senoko Energy offers:

    • LifeSteady24: 24 months, 1.635 cents/kWh discount off the regulated tariff
    • LifeSteady36: 36 months, 1.635 cents/kWh discount off the regulated tariff

As can be seen, both plans offer the same rate of discount. With this in mind, you will need to evaluate your preferred lock-in duration. Between 1 January 2026 and 31 March 2026, the electricity tariff is 29.11 cents/kWh. Accordingly, these two plans offer a discount of around 5.4% off the current tariff.

    Part 7: Timing-Based Plan

LifeSavvy24 charges you based on the usage at different timings of the day. In detail, over the next 24 months, the electricity rate is

    • 36.95 cents/kWh during the peak period from 7 am to 11 pm; and
    • 20.05 cents/kWh during the off-peak period from 11 pm to 7am.

    Part 9: My Evaluation

The difference between the fixed price rate for a 12-month and a 24-month plan is 3.5% and the key determinant is your willingness to have a longer lock-in period.

Given that the Energy Market Authority reviews the electricity tariff every quarter, I feel that 24 months is a long lock-in period. For the most part, there are plenty of chances for the energy cost to fall by 3.5%. Based on the historical data, this dip is certainly possible. Hence, 12-month is the maximum lock-in period that I would consider.

After switching over to Senoko Energy (in July 2022). I have been saving an average of $7.24 on my electricity bill every month. At the end of each calendar month, Senoko Energy will send both a SMS and an email to notify me that my electricity bill is ready for viewing. Additionally, if there is any U-Save rebate that I can utilise to offset my bill, Senoko Energy will do so automatically. Overall, it has been a seamless and pleasant experience.
