Giga is a fully digital mobile service provider from its parent company, StarHub. It offers six no-frills and no-contract SIM-only plans at a competitive price. I have been using their mobile service since 2021 and it has been a pleasant experience so far. If you can look beyond Giga’s flaws, then this is a mobile service provider that is worth considering from a value perspective (i.e. affordable cost with good benefits). With this in mind, let’s learn about Giga and whether you should sign up today.

Part 1: About StarHub Giga
Launched in May 2019, Giga leverages on modern technology to provide a seamless digital experience to meet our mobile service needs. It operates on StarHub’s network, which has been verified by IMDA’s IMconnected Report as Singapore’s fastest mobile service network.
Part 1.1: Types of Plans Available
Giga offers six plans that are split into two network speed categories:
4G Plans:
| Monthly Cost | Talktime | SMS | Data | Asia Roaming | International Roaming |
| $10.19 | 300 minutes | 300 SMS | 100 GB, 4G Speeds | 2 GB, 5 countries | Nil |
| $12.00 | 300 minutes | 300 SMS | 200 GB, 4G Speeds | 4 GB, 5 countries | Nil |
5G Plans:
| Monthly Cost | Talktime | SMS | Data | Asia Roaming | International Roaming |
| $15.28 | 300 minutes | 300 SMS | 300 GB, 5G Speeds | 8 GB, 5 countries | Nil |
| $18.33 | 800 minutes | 800 SMS | 400 GB, 5G Speeds, Singapore & Malaysia | 10 GB, 5 countries | 6 GB, 48 countries |
| $20.37 | 1,000 minutes | 1,000 SMS | 500 GB, 5G Speeds, Singapore & Malaysia | 12 GB, 5 countries | 10 GB, 48 countries |
| $28.00 | 1,500 minutes | 1,500 SMS | 1 TB, 5G Speeds, Singapore & Malaysia | 16 GB, 5 countries | 12 GB, 48 countries |
Part 1.2: Additional Benefits
In addition to the above mentioned benefits, all the plans will also enjoy the following free benefits:
- Caller ID;
- Local incoming calls;
- Local incoming SMSes.
To point out, some of the major mobile service providers may charge for these benefits. For example, it is common to pay $5.45 for Caller ID so that you know who is calling you.
Part 1.3: Free Rollover Data
Giga introduces a unique feature that most data-hungry users will adore, Free Rollover Data. For instance, let’s take the cheapest plan at $10.19 a month, and this comes together with 100 GB of data. During the first month, I used 10 GB of data. At the start of the second month, Giga will add the 90 GB of unused data onto my base plan. Thereupon, I will have 90 GB + 100 GB = 190 GB of data during the second month. We can repeat this rollover process for two renewal cycles, and up to the respective rollover data cap, that is,
- 100 GB for the 100 GB plan, i.e. a total of 200 GB in a billing cycle;
- 200 GB for the 200 GB plan, i.e. a total of 400 GB in a billing cycle;
- 300 GB for the 300 GB plan, i.e. a total of 600 GB in a billing cycle;
- 400 GB for the 400 GB plan, i.e. a total of 800 GB in a billing cycle;
- 500 GB for the 500 GB plan, i.e. a total of 1 TB in a billing cycle;
- 1 TB for the 1 TB plan, i.e. a total of 2 TB in a billing cycle.
Okay, who really uses 2 TB of data in a month?
To illustrate, according to Netflix, “you can watch about 4 hours per GB of data”.
In other words, with 2 TB of data, you can spend about 8,000 hours to watch all of your favourite shows on Netflix. Even if you binge on Netflix for 24 hours a day, you still can’t exhaust all the data that Giga offers by the end of the billing month.
Part 1.4: Overseas Roaming
Similar to the traditional mobile service providers’ plans, you can roam with Giga too. In addition to the roaming data that are bundled to your plan, you may increase the amount of data with the following add-ons:
- gigaRoam APAC: Pay $5 for 1 GB of overseas data, valid for 5 days when you arrive at your travel destination (14 countries).
- gigaRoam ROTW: Pay $15 for 1 GB of overseas data, valid for 15 days when you arrive at your travel destination (48 countries).
You may refer to Giga’s FAQ for the list of supported destinations.
Personally, I have used Giga’s overseas roaming for many overseas trip. This is because gigaRoam has been reliable and both the upload and download speeds are sufficient to meet my usage needs. Moreover, I enjoy the straightforward process that is well-integrated within the same service provider. All I need to do is to purchase gigaRoam and enable the Data Roaming settings on my phone. Thereafter, gigaRoam will automatically activate after I have arrived at my overseas destination.
Despite my positive experience, gigaRoam is probably suitable for you if you are not a heavy data user. Otherwise, its cost may add up if you need to purchase too many gigaRoams.
Do you know? You can receive incoming SMS OTP without needing to stack on a gigaRoam pack when you are overseas. Hence, it may not be necessary to purchase a gigaRoam for this purpose alone.
Part 1.5: Contract and Lock-in Period
With Giga, there is no contract or lock-in period to worry about. You are free to cancel the service or to port out to another mobile service provider at any time without being forced to pay any early termination charges. To do so, submit your cancellation request at least three days before your next renewal cycle. This is so as to prevent any unnecessary renewal charges (which happens automatically every month). After you have submitted the cancellation request, you may continue to use your existing plan’s benefits until the last day of the current billing cycle. Thereafter, Giga will terminate your plan on the last day of the billing cycle.
On the other hand, you should not cancel your line if you intend to port out of Giga. Instead, you should check the procedure with your new mobile service provider.
In the same way, you may also upgrade (or downgrade) your existing plan with Giga. For this purpose, the new plan will take effect on your next renewal date. It is important to realise that you will lose all the rollover data that you have accumulated from your previous plan. Therefore, do plan your usage accordingly.
Part 1.6: Excess Charges
Unlike the traditional mobile service plans, you won’t get a bill shock with Giga. Generally, such (traditional) plans charges you a premium automatically once you have exhausted your plan’s benefit for that month. However, Giga does not follow such a practice. Instead, your outgoing services will stop after you have exhausted your plan’s benefit for the month, e.g. 300 minutes of talktime for the 100 GB plan. Notwithstanding the cap, there may be situations when you need a little more talktime (or other benefits) before your next renewal cycle. Under those circumstances, you may purchase the relevant add-on, e.g.
- Talktime pack: $1.01 for 100 minutes;
- SMS pack: $1.01 for 25 SMS;
- Data pack: $2.04 for 1 GB;
- IDD pack: $5 credits.
Surely, these add-ons are much cheaper than the premium charged by the traditional mobile service providers.
Part 1.7: App Interface
You will need to rely on Giga’s app for everything – be it to view your data usage, or to make changes to the plan itself. Overall, the app is lightweight and easy to navigate. For instance, you can view your realtime data usage from the app’s dashboard. If you need help, tap on Gino (the cat) at the top righthand corner to ask your question. Meanwhile, you may make administrative related changes by tapping the menu icon (bottom righthand corner), e.g. to update your payment method or to change to another plan.
Part 2: My Situation and Needs
Part 2.1: Monthly Usage
Be it at home or in office, there is a reliable Wi-Fi network for me to tap into. At the same time, my family and friends are used to answering a FaceTime Audio or a WhatsApp call. As a result, both my Talktime and local data usage are relatively low. On average, here is how it looks like in a typical month:
- Talktime: 30 to 50 minutes;
- SMS: 5 to 10 SMSes;
- Data: 10 to 15 GB;
- Caller ID;
- (Preferably) free Incoming Calls.
Part 2.2: Why No Contract
Before making a switch in 2021, I conducted an analysis between a postpaid mobile service plan and Giga. In both cases, I selected comparable benefits and also purchased a new iPhone 12 with a storage capacity of 128 GB. Over a 2-year period, the cost for the postpaid mobile service plan added up to be $2,493.60 while a no-contract plan with Giga costs $1,611, saving me close to $900. Given the huge amount of potential savings, I decided to sign up with Giga. After all, I can always revert back to my original mobile service provider without any penalty charges if Giga falls short of expectation.
With a 2-year contract from a postpaid mobile service provider, I’m always tempted to upgrade my handset during the contract renewal period. This is because the provider tends to provide an attractive offer that is difficult for me to say no to. As a result, I would end up spending more than I should, on a gadget that I don’t need. Through a SIM-only plan without any contractual period, I was able to use the same handset for more than three years! Therefore, I would reckon that this is definitely an inherent method to save more money, especially on things that I don’t need in the first place.
Part 2.3: Real World Usage
Summing up, Giga offers decent 4G network speed that is sufficient to meet my usage needs. Here are two test results for your reference (test date: 21 October 2025):
- Google Internet Speed Test (Singapore Server): Download Speed of 241.3 Mbps, Upload Speed of 19.7 Mbps, with a latency of 14 ms.
Based on this result, Google concluded that Giga’s internet connection is very fast. In fact, the connection is capable of handling multiple devices streaming HD videos, video conferencing, and gaming at the same time.
- Ookla Speed Test (StarHub Ltd Server): Download Speed of 287 Mbps (data used 354 MB), Upload Speed of 24.1 Mbps (data used 37.9 MB), with a ping of 14 ms during idle (3 ms jitter, low of 13, high of 24), 435 ms during download (86 ms jitter, low of 26, high of 923), and 177 ms during upload (55 ms jitter, low of 16, high of 410)
For one thing, both results agree with each other to conclude that my internet connection is very fast and stable. In like manner, I was able to use its mobile service when the MRT train is travelling underground. Hence, you can be assured that you won’t lose any connection in most cases.
Part 2.4: Other Useful Features
Giga allows you to block overseas calls and overseas SMSes. To do so,
- Login to the giga App.
- Click on the mega menu (button with 4 lines) at the bottom right of the giga App and select ‘Settings”.
- Toggle on ‘Block Overseas SMSes” and “Block Overseas Calls” for free.
Part 3: Two Major Flaws
Even though Giga offers plans with excellent benefits at an affordable cost, it is not a perfect mobile service provider. Well, does a perfect mobile service provider exist in the first place? Here are two flaws that you must know prior to signing up.
Part 3.1: Customer Service
If you ever need to contact Giga’s customer service via its website Live Chat service, then you would probably need a great deal of patience. Based on my past experiences (in 2021), I had to wait an average of two to three hours before being connected to a live agent. On those occasions, I considered myself really lucky! Evidently, netizens on social media platforms like Facebook have echoed similar frustrations.
In addition to the sluggish Live Chat service, nobody responded to my emails. This, understandably, raises a major red flag. Despite the lacklustre live support, you might have better luck finding an answer in the knowledge base FAQs, or through the AI-generated chat responses – both of which, to my surprise, works very well!
Part 3.2: Benefits may change over time
It is important to realise that Giga may change the benefits of its existing plans at any time. Similarly, it may also refresh the offers for the new sign-ups. In fact, Giga made so many changes that I decided to create another section, Changelog (see Part 5) to record all these changes. In the recent years, the trend has been to increase the local data allowance, enable 5G Speeds for the higher-tier plans, and also offer overseas data roaming as part of its bundle. If you are an existing user, these changes will usually take place during your next billing cycle.
Part 4: Final Thoughts on Giga
Four years ago, I performed a benefit and cost analysis on the available postpaid and SIM-only plans available on the market. Tempted by the potential savings, I made the switch even though no-contract SIM-only plans were relatively new in the market. Looking back, I must say that it was a worthwhile switch. Today, I continued to stay with Giga as it continues to provide a fuss-free experience, be it locally or whenever I travel abroad.
At $10.19 per month, it may not be the cheapest SIM-only plan on the market right now. However, as an existing user, I find it cumbersome to port out to another mobile service provider just to save a couple of bucks. Moreover, Giga rewards existing users with random gifts like free 10 GB local data or 1 GB International Roaming.
As a new user, the sign up experience is hassle-free and I’m certain that you will enjoy the reliability associated with Singapore’s fastest mobile service network. All things considered, we are not bounded by any contracts. In the event that Giga annoys us over the top, we can always port out at anytime without paying any penalty. As for myself, everything has been ‘giga-tastic’ so far and I look forward to even more positives updates in the future.

Part 5: Changelog
By and large, I strive to update this change log whenever Giga changes the plans that it offers to the customers. Here are some of the changes that Giga has made:
When I first wrote this article in September 2021, Giga offers four plans with the following benefits:
- $10 per month: 500 minutes Talktime, 500 SMS, and 6 GB Data;
- $20 per month: 500 minutes Talktime, 500 SMS, and 40 GB Data;
- $25 per month: 2,000 minutes Talktime, 2,000 SMS, and 60 GB Data;
- $45 per month: 10,000 minutes Talktime, 10,000 SMS, and 100 GB Data.
Since 11 November 2022, Giga has revised the Talktime, SMS, and Data allowance for the four plans:
- $10 per month: 300 minutes Talktime, 300 SMS, and 10 GB Data;
- $20 per month: 1,000 minutes Talktime, 1,000 SMS, and 100 GB Data;
- $25 per month: 1,500 minutes Talktime, 1,500 SMS, and 150 GB Data;
- $45 per month: 5,000 minutes Talktime, 5,000 SMS, and 350 GB Data.
Since 8 March 2024, Giga streamlined its plans by removing the two most expensive plans and introduced a new plan that costs $18.33 per month. The prices have also been adjusted to reflect the 9% GST.
- $10.19 per month: 300 minutes Talktime, 300 SMS, and 20 GB Data;
- $18.33 per month: 800 minutes Talktime, 800 SMS, and 200 GB Data (new plan);
- $20.37 per month: 1,000 minutes Talktime, 1,000 SMS, and 300 GB Data.
Since 23 May 2024, Giga reintroduced its top-tier plan with 1 TB of local Data at $28 per month. Next, three of the more expensive plans have 5G cellular network and Asia Roaming (to 5 countries) as part of its bundle. To point out, you used to be able to purchase “5G Speeds” as an add-on for $10 in a billing cycle. Since most of its plans come with 5G Speeds in its bundle, Giga has removed this add-on now. As a result, customers on their cheapest plan will be stuck with 4G Speeds.
- $10.19 per month: 300 minutes Talktime, 300 SMS, and 20 GB Data at 4G Speeds;
- $18.33 per month: 800 minutes Talktime, 800 SMS, 300 GB Data at 5G Speeds, and 2 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
- $20.37 per month: 1,000 minutes Talktime, 1,000 SMS, 400 GB Data at 5G Speeds, and 4 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
- $28.00 per month: 1,500 minutes Talktime, 1,500 SMS, 1 TB Data at 5G Speeds, and 6 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
Since 1 October 2024, Giga added Asia Roaming (5 countries) to its $10.19 per month plan while the rest of the existing plans enjoy higher data allowance for Asia Roaming (5 countries). Giga also introduced a new plan that costs $15.28 per month.
- $10.19 per month: 300 minutes Talktime, 300 SMS, 20 GB Data at 4G Speeds, and 2 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
- $15.28 per month: 300 minutes Talktime, 300 SMS, 300 GB Data at 4G Speeds, and 4 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
- $18.33 per month: 800 minutes Talktime, 800 SMS, 300 GB Data at 5G Speeds, and 6 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
- $20.37 per month: 1,000 minutes Talktime, 1,000 SMS, 400 GB Data at 5G Speeds, and 8 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
- $28.00 per month: 1,500 minutes Talktime, 1,500 SMS, 1 TB Data at 5G Speeds, and 10 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
On 16 December 2024, Giga introduced a limited-time offer plan that costs $12 per month. This plan comes with 300 minutes Talktime, 300 SMS, 100 GB Data at 4G Speeds, and 4 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries).
Since 14 March 2025, Giga increased the local Data allowance for the $10.19 and $12 per month plan. For the remaining plans, Giga has increased the allowance for Asia Roaming (5 countries). For the 5G plans, Giga now includes International Roaming (34 countries) as part of the bundle.
- $10.19 per month: 300 minutes Talktime, 300 SMS, 100 GB Data at 4G Speeds, and 2 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
- $12.00 per month: 300 minutes Talktime, 300 SMS, 150 GB Data at 4G Speeds, and 4 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
- $15.28 per month: 300 minutes Talktime, 300 SMS, 300 GB Data at 4G Speeds, 6 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
- $18.33 per month: 800 minutes Talktime, 800 SMS, 300 GB Data at 5G Speeds, 10 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries), and 1 GB International Roaming (34 countries);
- $20.37 per month: 1,000 minutes Talktime, 1,000 SMS, 400 GB Data at 5G Speeds, 10 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries), and 2 GB International Roaming (34 countries);
- $28.00 per month: 1,500 minutes Talktime, 1,500 SMS, 1 TB Data at 5G Speeds, 16 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries), and 2 GB International Roaming (34 countries);
Since 16 May 2025, the International Roaming for the 5G plans will cover 48 destinations worldwide (instead of 34 countries previously).
Since 29 May 2025, gigaBuddy’s data allowance has increased to 10 GB per month. Meanwhile, the cost remains at $3.97 per month and you can continue to enjoy free rollover data up to 20 GB.
Since 3 July 2025, Giga increased the local Data allowance for four of its plans. For the $15.28 per month plan, you can enjoy 5G Speeds for free for 24 months. For the existing three 5G plans, Giga offers higher data allowance for International Roaming.
- $10.19 per month: 300 minutes Talktime, 300 SMS, 100 GB Data at 4G Speeds, and 2 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
- $12.00 per month: 300 minutes Talktime, 300 SMS, 200 GB Data at 4G Speeds, 4 GB Asia Roaming (5 countries);
